Survey Methodology
The baseline was commissioned to establish the status of knowledge, attitudes and practices among community members, schools, churches, and health facilities relating to key thematic areas, namely; (i) water access, ii) sanitation and waste management, iii) hygiene and Menstrual Health Management, iv) environmental stewardship, v) disaster preparedness, and vi) church engagement in development and evangelization.
Key reference was made to WHO AND UNICEF JMP guides and questionnaires for WASH in Households, Schools, Health Facilities. The study a doped a mixed-methods approach using both quantitative and qualitative techniques. Prior to kicking off the evaluation, a desk study and a document review was conducted which informed development of the survey tools; the consultant ensured the study questions were aligned with the six thematic aeras of project as well as previous assessments. The desk study was followed by semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs) and key informant interviews with key stakeholders

Data Collection Process
Data was collected using Kobo Toolbox and questionnaires were programmed into the Kobo Toolbox and transferred to each mobile device individually using mobile Internet connection. A training was conducted for two days followed by a pre-test before the actual data collection. The pre-test identified challenges in the questionnaires that were subsequently addressed. Research assistants accessed the Kobo Collect application and entered data directly on Kobo and at end of each day after completing the interviews, the research assistants submitted the data to the main server.
Data Analysis and Report Writing
Prior to analysis, the consultant undertook data cleaning which involved identifying responses that were improbable (outside the normally expected range) or impossible – outliers, inconsistent data, etc. During the analysis, descriptive statistics was generated for each question to show frequencies, proportions, and averages. Thematic coding and analysis was conducted for qualitative data by coding themes and patterns that were important and associated to specific research questions and have been incorporated in the report to triangulate quantitative findings. A draft report was prepared in line with the format required. The consultant presented key findings to the Project Team and incorporated the comments or additional information in preparing the final evaluation report.
