Fieldwork Quality Control
The enumerators are normally trained on the survey methodology, data collection techniques and other skills needed to conduct high quality household interviews including detailed review of all questions, and instructions prior to the commencement of fieldwork.
Our lead supervisors carry out visual inspection, or reading through in full of completed questionnaires on the smartphones, to ensure to all questions have been recorded correctly, verify the number of interviews per enumerator per day, the interview start and end times, the interview length, and the level of “don’t know” and “refused” rates.
We also hold debriefing sessions with team of Enumerators after 2-3 days of fieldwork to communicate on any problems experienced during the surveys.
Operational Risk Management
We are committed to providing services in post-conflict environments while maintaining the integrity of our clients and stakeholders as well as our own. As a result, we determine accessibility in the enumeration areas to ensure that we reach as many remote locations as possible without out endangering our staff or compromising the quality of the data collected.
Before starting fieldwork, we engage with local administrative authorities to conduct a risk analysis of project sites and identify key threats to health and security.
Ethical Assurance Controls
Informed consent is obtained from all respondents in their local language prior to their participation in a survey. The informed consent highlights the purpose of the survey, risks and benefits of participating in the study and detail observance of confidentiality of data collected.
Each adult participating in survey signs (or thumbprint on) informed consent form while each minor (younger than 18 years) is given consent to participate by a parent or legal guardian and he/she also signs assent form. In addition, we obey and adhere to Do No Harm policy and other operational policies as well as religious practices in the project areas during the entire survey.
