The Health and Leadership Training Program was designed to empower adolescents by providing critical information at a time when they are at risk of undergoing FGM and being forced into an early marriages. Kakenya’s Dream has partnered with at least 80local schools since 2019 reaching 24,000 adolescents through the training. The program further aimed to improve their health and wellbeing by providing them with critical health and safety information aimed at reducing rates of FGM, early marriages, teenage pregnancies, and gender-based violence across Narok, Migori and Kisii counties.
The study assessed performance of the program against its intended objectives, as guided by its key performance indicators. In addition, the study assessed the impact and relevance of the program’s intervention on the participation of adolescent boys and girls in the Jijue Program; project management and activity implementation to address the results achieved and the partnerships established; and identified best practices for future engagement. The impact assessment was undertaken as per the OECD – DAC criteria mainly relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, impact, scalability, coherence, and sustainability in relation to program’s outcomes and outputs, best practices and lessons learnt, and recommendations for future programming by Kakenya’s Dream. GARTS was involved in Designing and Executing the assessment – Data collection , Analysis and Report development.
Data Cleaning and Coding
The consultant was involved in developing data cleaning and coding frameworks. During data cleaning, the consultant performed cross-tabulations of related variables to ensure consistency, investigate the internal logic between related variables and corrected any mistakes before actual data analysis commenced.
Qualitative data collection was mainly done through KIIs and FGDs. The consultant developed coding frameworks – thematic Coding and Analysis involved identifying passages of text that are linked by a common theme or idea and then indexing the texts into categories to establish a framework of thematic ideas. Thematic coding identified key themes arising from the qualitative data that were aggregated into summary reports (in word format) using NVIVO

Data Analysis
During the analysis, descriptive statistics were generated for each indicator to show frequencies, proportions, and averages. Comparability analysis was conducted across several evaluation points in phase 2, 3 and 4 of programming by Kakenya’s Dream.
Final Report Submission
The consultant developed a draft report and shared with the project team members to give their comments and provide additional information for incorporation. The draft report was refined to incorporate comments from project staff resulting to production of the Final report.
